Known as ‘Ha’ in other markets, the Eon is set to challenge the dominance of Maruti Suzuki in the small compact car market where Alto has been the highest-selling four wheeler for a long, long time.
It is being speculated that the car will score high on the mileage front and will perhaps be launched ahead of Maruti’s new small car model in a bid by Hyudai to grab a larger chunk of the small car segment.
“We are launching Ha next month, which is Hyundai’s first car exclusively for the Indian market,” William Y W Lee, executive vice-president, overseas sales division of Hyundai Motor Company had earlier told DNA.
The car has entered the final test phase at the Namyang Research and Development Centre at Gyeonggi province, and also at Hyundai’s Indian development facility at Hyderabad.
A media preview in India is slated for September 16-17, Hyundai officials in Korea said leading up to its launch in October.
Designers associated with Eon described it as a “breakthrough product meeting unmet need of style, comfort, utility, space and economy” for a small compact car.
A spokesperson earlier mentioned that the company had been working on a model whose consumption of petrol will be far less than that of existing cars.
